The State Tretyakov Gallery’s section of contemporary art presents special exhibition project in scope of the “Museum night 2012” and the World Chess Championship.
This project is is timed to the World Chess Championship Match and dedicated to Marcel Duchamp. One of the most influential artists of the XXth century, Duchamp was an able chess player. He claimed that his ardour for chess should had been taken as a part of his creative work: “While not all artists are chess players, all chess players are artists”.
“Triumph of Caïssa” covers with the interconnection between contemporary art and chess game practice. The central event of the “Museum night 2012” in the Tretyakov Gallery will be a multy-board chess play of International Grand Master Maria Manakova (she will personify the patroness of chess Caïssa) with the artists-members of current exhibition.
The opening and the multy-board chess play are taking place on May, 19 in the State Tretyakov Gallery’s hall on Krymsky Val.
