All his creative work is associated with this village. In 1931 the artist's house and all of the work he had completed up to then was destroyed by fire. Plastov’s creative work is mostly devoted to the subject of peasant life. His painting follow the traditions of P.P.Konchalovsky and S.V.Gerasimov. Plastov’s art has a unique ability to preserve the direct impression from nature in the painting. "There is the truthful study, and then there is truth of a study in the painting", believed the artist . "The truth of a study in the painting" was mostly displayed in the master’s ability to retain human warmth, the individual attitude to that, which he painted. The artist denounced the composed narrative characteristic in Soviet paintings of the 1930-1950s. Art critics defined his works as an "eventless" genre, occasionally he was criticised as a result.
