Colourful sketches of large format, intended to be implement in vast wall surfaces, convey the potential of large forms. They excel in plastic virtuosity, precision and beauty of form.

The sketches of monumental paintings have traditionally been the focus of attention while the collection of the Tretyakov Gallery was formed.

This genre represents visual documents of the epochs past, which allows us to reconstruct unrealized ideas, enriches our understanding of the history and stylistic variants of mural painting, conveys the changes of architects and purchasers’ tastes, and sometimes a change of distinctive periods in art.
