In the minds of Russians, oil is mythologized, and Nikolay Nasedkin reveals this myth. Oil has become part of the artist’s personal history – for more than 10 years he has been creating paintings using oil suspensions. The main question of the project is whether it is possible to discern personal history in the global history of the contemporary world. The exhibition will include: a series of large-scale “oil” panels and columns, a large object called Svetopad, as well as videos made as a diary of the artist’s travel to his small motherland in search of his relatives. In explications of the exhibition, the curator will present the background of oil in the context of politics, economy and art in the USSR and modern Russia.
