The year 2018 will see the 100th anniversary of the death of the imperial family — Emperor Nicholas II, his wife and children. The exhibition is dedicated to that tragic date. The Tretyakov Gallery keeps unique materials from the imperial family’s archives: gift albums and individual photos made between the 1870s and the 1910s. The albums encrusted in silver and gold originate from imperial residences — the Gatchina Palace and the Alexander Palace. They came to the Tretyakov Gallery between 1929 and 1932 and have never been showed to the general public.
The photos were made by well-known professionals: Gudshon, Gubchevsky, Brandel, Thiele, Bergamasco and others; in addition, some photos were made by members of the imperial family and people from their entourage.
The exhibition is organized within the framework of the Gallery’s participation in the program of the 2018 Moscow International Photo Biennale.
Every Wednesday you can visit for free the permanent exhibition "The Art of the Twentieth Century" in the New Tretyakov (Krymsky Val, 10).
