Rodin. 18+

Engineering Building

France-Belgium, 2017, 119 min.

Director: Jacques Doillon

Cast: Vincent Lindon, Izïa Higelin, Séverine Caneele, Bernard Verley and others

The film Rodin was made to mark the 100th anniversary of the death of Auguste Rodin and premiered at the 70th Cannes Film Festival. This is the story of the rise of the genius sculptor to world fame, his art, his many love affairs and his difficult relationships with the most important women in his life.

The story is based on the relationship between French sculptor Auguste Rodin (Vincent Lindon) and his sweetheart and talented apprentice Camille Claudel, and Rose Beuret, the mother of his only child. This love and art triangle has always interested drama lovers, as well as the art experts and researchers who have been taken by Rodin’s style and what influenced him, as well as experts on gender issues.

The audience will be able to compare the screen interpretations of the historical figures in the 1988 film Camille Claudel (starring Gerard Depardieu and Isabelle Adjani) with the contemporary version starring Vincent Lindon and Izïa Higelin. Film directors have their own views on the story of Camille who suffered during her life from dependence on both her family and on her relationship with the sculptor. On screen she is more independent and attractive: thus, Bruno Dumont in his film Camille Claudel 1915 (2013) left Rodin out of the picture entirely.
