The solo exhibition of Nikolay Ivanovich Feshin (1881‒1955), one of the outstanding artists of the first half of the 20th century, will continue the collaboration between the State Tretyakov Gallery and the State Museum of Fine Arts of the Republic of Tatarstan as part of the events celebrating the 100th anniversary of the formation of the Republic (TASSR).
Kazan houses the largest collection of the artist’s works, including painting, graphics and sculpture that were created mainly before he emigrated to the United States in 1923. During the period of his in-depth searches for the national distinctness of art, Feshin’s work was a particular manifestation of the artistic and modelling tasks of the era, and new themes associated with the life of a multinational country were also revealed then. It is planned to bring to Moscow his pictorial masterpieces, large-scale canvases, “Affusion” (1911) and “The Slaughterhouse” (1919). Numerous masterful portrayals will demonstrate the painter’s highest skill.
