Dmitry Kovalenko’s collection has been forming since the 1990s, when he assisted in the implementation of the L-Gallery projects (one of the first venues for contemporary art in Moscow). Dmitry Kovalenko grew up in a family of artists. Among his relatives are Nina Yakovlevna Simonovich-Efimova (great-grandmother), Ivan Semenovich Efimov (great-grandfather), and his uncles Illarion Golitsyn and Dmitry Zhilinsky. The exposition represents a kind of “alphabet of modern art” formed by the works of artists who played a significant role in the art of the 1990s – 2000s, and whose work is presented at the exhibition “in development”. It should be noted that artists “in development” are the main feature of Kovalenko’s collection. The artists who have their works displayed in the collection are different in style and from different stages.
